Bungie has confirmed that the raids and raid lairs from Destiny 2's Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken releases are part of the first pass of its unvaulting project. No release date exists yet, but Bungie's own timeline of about 12 months of full production after pre-production points to early 2028 at the earliest.

Which raids are coming back to Destiny 2?
Bungie's October 29 Community Update says the first pass will include the "Raids and Raid Lairs" from the Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris and Warmind releases. Bungie did not name individual raids in the update, and Shacknews and The Game Post report the same wording.
For context, the original Red War launch shipped the Leviathan raid, Curse of Osiris added the Eater of Worlds raid lair, and Warmind added the Spire of Stars raid lair. Forsaken's launch raid, Last Wish, was never vaulted and is already in today's featured rotation. Bungie has not said whether raids from the Forsaken annual pass seasons are covered, so treat any list beyond the wording above as speculation until Bungie confirms it.
Are any dungeons included?
The update does not mention dungeons. Every dungeon on our guides list is already playable today, so this mainly matters for anyone hoping vaulted activities beyond raids come back.
Why is Bungie unvaulting content now?
On May 21, 2026, Bungie announced that Destiny 2's June 9 Monument of Triumph update would be its final live-service content update, while promising to keep the game playable. In September, Bungie said it planned to bring back vaulted campaigns, destinations and raids.
In the October update, Deane framed the project as a trust issue: "I just don't see how we could move forward with confidence without first repairing trust and making Destiny 2 'whole.'"
When will vaulted raids return?
There is no release date. Bungie says it gave an initial greenlight in June 2026 to scope the work and find a partner, validated its assumptions and gave a full greenlight in September, and is now in pre-production and proof-of-work until roughly January or February 2027. Full production is expected to take about 12 months.
Shacknews reads that as a release around February or March 2028 or later. That is a reasonable estimate, but it is still an estimate, and project timelines can slip. Our unvaulting release date explainer breaks the timeline down month by month.
Will the returning raids have new loot?
Not confirmed. Raid and raid lair weapon updates are listed as a stretch goal, and Bungie also lists legacy raids as needing "a deeper chase." Stretch goals may arrive at launch, after launch or not at all.
What is not coming back?
Bungie says it has no current update path for an updated New Light experience, seasonal story missions, the Kell's Grave Gambit map or seasonal hubs such as the Eliksni Quarter.
What else did Bungie announce?
Alongside unvaulting, the update describes a Destiny 2 "Celebration" with new updates beyond Monument of Triumph and a Destiny "Legacy" initiative. Both are expected to get new progress updates in February 2027. The Game Post adds that Deane said not to expect a Destiny announcement at The Game Awards this year. What this means for your carries
Nothing changes for current raids. All nine raids in the featured rotation, from Last Wish to Salvation's Edge, plus the final raid released, covered in our Desert Perpetual raid guide, are playable now. If you want practice before the old raids return, our Destiny 2 raid carry guide explains how a Sherpa run works.
All our carries are self-play: you play on your own account with our team, and we never ask for your password. See our account safety page for details, or browse all raid carries. We will cover unvaulted raids once Bungie confirms a date.
