Shattered Throne Dungeon Guide: Prepare and Get a Carry

Broken throne hall with a shattered crystal throne and floating violet shards, Shattered Throne dungeon guide

The Shattered Throne is the three-player Destiny 2 dungeon from the Forsaken expansion. To prepare, check the recommended power level, bring a flexible loadout and use voice chat. A self-play carry lets you play your own account while a Sherpa explains each section.

Quick answer: The Shattered Throne is a three-player Destiny 2 dungeon released with Forsaken in 2018, set in the Ascendant realm reached from the Dreaming City. It runs from a seven-cathedral Labyrinth through a platforming Descent to two bosses: Vorgeth, the Boundless Hunger and Dul Incaru, the Eternal Return. A Guardian Sherpa carry lets you play your own account while a guide explains each mechanic.

What is the Shattered Throne dungeon?

The Shattered Throne is a three-player dungeon added during Destiny 2: Forsaken. Destinypedia lists it as released on September 25, 2018, and places it in Eleusinia, part of the Ascendant realm, entered from Erebus in the Dreaming City (Destinypedia, Shacknews). GamesRadar describes it as sitting between a Strike and a raid in difficulty.

The structure is simple: the Labyrinth, the Descent, a boss (Vorgeth), a climb, and a final boss (Dul Incaru). Launch-era guides listed recommended power values of 550 to 590 and disagree, so check the in-game Director for the current number. Typical clear length depends on team experience and we do not publish a fixed figure.

How do you manage a Shattered Throne dungeon run?

These are team-practice steps we recommend for any three-player dungeon, not game rules.

  1. Before you queue: agree the three roles (caller and objective runner, add control, damage and support), who revives first and who holds Heavy ammo for the boss. Write them in party chat.
  2. Set up comms: all three on voice chat, one caller per encounter, and a rule that only the caller talks during mechanics.
  3. Loadouts: bring a build you already know. Pack weapons for adds, bosses and long range, and check ammo types before each boss. Do not swap to a build you have not practised just before a boss.
  4. Finisher plan: decide who takes the key kills or objective hand-offs when an encounter needs one person to do it, and say it out loud.
  5. Checkpoints and progress: confirm in-game how your team's progress is saved this week before leaving the dungeon. Do not assume you can leave mid-encounter and rejoin where you left off.
  6. Pacing: take one section at a time. After each one, loot, reload ammo, swap weapons and revisit the next section's roles before you move.
  7. Running callouts: the caller states the phase, the next trigger and each person's job. Players confirm with one word. Silence means 'got it'; ask if unsure.
  8. After a wipe: do not rush back. Spend 30 seconds naming what failed (timer, position, wrong step, dead runner), assign the fix to one person, and re-enter.
  9. When to pause: after three failed attempts with the same mistake, take a break, reset roles or switch the caller. Fatigue causes most repeated wipes.
  10. Leaving and rejoining: with only three players, one person leaving ends the run for everyone unless a replacement can join. Confirm in-game whether the rest of the team can wait.

Shattered Throne encounter guide

The Shattered Throne has two bosses and several traversal sections. The steps below follow Shacknews, PC Gamer and GamesRadar, with Destinypedia used to cross-check names. These guides were written in 2018 and 2019 and the dungeon has been tuned since, so where they do not agree we say "confirm in-game".

1. The Labyrinth (Erebus)

Goal: Clear seven cathedrals in the order the symbols reveal, ending where you started.

Route map of the Labyrinth: seven cathedrals visited in a random order, starting and ending at the diving bird cathedral. Cathedral positions here are schematic.
  1. Reach the entrance from the Dreaming City: a portal path leads to a room with a large dark portal. Guides describe the route differently, so use the in-game map.
  2. Enter the cathedral with the diving bird symbol on the back wall. This is where you start and finish.
  3. Clear the enemies, including the yellow-bar miniboss (a Labyrinth Architect per Shacknews and Destinypedia). A symbol then lights up.
  4. Find that symbol on the map to identify the next cathedral, go there, kill its miniboss and read the next symbol.
  5. Repeat until all seven cathedrals are cleared. The order is random but always begins and ends at the diving bird cathedral.
  6. Snipe the temple bosses where you can. Expect Taken Thrall on the ground, Taken Phalanxes on floating platforms and Taken Hobgoblins throughout.
  7. Back at the diving bird cathedral a final miniboss spawns. Kill it for loot, then drop down to the next section.
  8. This is a darkness zone with restricted respawns: Shacknews says each death adds a 40-second respawn penalty and a full team wipe resets the area. Confirm in-game.

After a wipe: Agree one person to read the symbols aloud and one to watch the map, then restart the loop. The most common error is clearing a cathedral you already visited.

2. The Descent

Goal: Fight down through the Taken, cross the thin rafters and chasm, and survive the Thrall hallway.

  1. Drop through the hole in the final cathedral and follow the halls to a large open area filled with Taken. Drop to the bottom, then fight back up.
  2. Kill the Taken Knights, Phalanx and Hobgoblins along the hall. Snipe the Taken Vandals from the doorway before crossing the broken bridge.
  3. In the room with thin paths, Taken Ogres spawn and knock players off. Back off when they appear and shoot them from range.
  4. Jump the spinning orbs and avoid the beams where they block a path; use the alternate track if one is blocked.
  5. In the Thrall hallway ("Press Onward") you cannot sprint, double-jump or regenerate health, and enemies respawn endlessly. Stay together, hug the left wall and keep moving. Use ledges, stairs and boxes to stay above the horde. A Warlock healing rift helps.
  6. Jump through the barrier into a small chamber, then cross the chasm (pushy Taken portals and Phalanxes) either along the ledge or by climbing the inside of the cliff.
  7. Fight up the stairs to the cathedral that leads to Vorgeth.

After a wipe: Slow down in the Thrall hallway and move as one group. Splitting up is the usual cause of wipes there.

3. Vorgeth, the Boundless Hunger

Goal: Use Petitioner's Mark to douse a flame, drop Vorgeth's shield and burn him down.

Vorgeth Petitioner's Mark cycle Vorgeth: Petitioner's Mark cycle1KillWizard2Takepurple orb3Stack 1-445s timer4Burdenat 4 stacks5Dousea flameShield drops: group up and damage Vorgeth. A death loses all your stacks.Still alive? Repeat the Wizard and orb cycle (confirm the count in-game).
Diagram of the Vorgeth cycle as described by Shacknews and GamesRadar: Wizard, orb, four stacks, Petitioner's Burden, extinguish a flame, damage.
  1. Vorgeth is a large Taken Ogre with an immunity shield. Four Keeper of Petitions Wizards stand around the arena.
  2. Each Wizard spawns with two Taken Vandals and two Taken Goblins. Clear those first, then kill Wizards one at a time, working around the arena (GamesRadar and PC Gamer suggest counterclockwise from the Wizard on your left).
  3. Pick up the purple orb a Wizard drops to gain a Petitioner's Mark stack. The 45-second timer resets with each pickup, and a death loses all stacks. Orbs despawn after roughly 15 seconds (GamesRadar), so pace your pickups.
  4. At four stacks the buff becomes Petitioner's Burden. Use it to extinguish one flame (lantern or brazier, depending on the guide) away from Vorgeth.
  5. Each extinguished flame drops the shield. Group up and damage Vorgeth while it is down. Shoot or avoid his homing shadow orbs.
  6. Use pillars for cover from his eye beam. Void weapons are suggested for the Wizards.
  7. If Vorgeth survives the first damage window, take cover, kill the nearest Wizard and repeat the cycle.
  8. Defeating Vorgeth drops Powerful Gear. Shacknews also lists a statue interaction after the fight tied to the Wish-Ender quest; confirm the steps in-game.

After a wipe: Name which Wizard each player takes first and who dunks the flame. Dying with stacks resets everything, so the player holding the buff should stay behind cover.

4. The ascent to the spire

Goal: Reach the top of the spire and the final arena.

  1. Follow the path down the steps to a lift area guarded by four low-level Wizards. Clear the enemies, then take the lift up.
  2. When the goal changes to "Ascend", creep along a ledge with pushy portals outside, timing your movement so you are not knocked off.
  3. Use the elevators to reach the top of the spire and the boss room.
  4. Reset ammo and swap in your boss weapons before you walk in.

After a wipe: Walk the ledge one at a time and hold at the lifts until all three are together.

5. Dul Incaru, the Eternal Return

Goal: Kill the three guards, take their buff, damage Dul Incaru and cleanse before the timer ends.

Diagram of the Dul Incaru loop from Shacknews and GamesRadar. Confirm exact timers and the cleanse spot in-game.
  1. The arena is cramped. Dul Incaru is guarded by three Champion-class enemies. Guides disagree on the names: Shacknews says high-ranking Hive Knights, GamesRadar says Taken or Abyssal Champions, and Destinypedia names three Fatesmiths (Alak-Tor, Ba-Kuur and Gaurog). Confirm in-game.
  2. Shoot the guards. They are slow until they lose their helmets, after which they sprint (Shacknews).
  3. Each kill drops an orb with a timed buff (Finite Thought per Shacknews) that lets you damage Dul Incaru. Try to kill all three together and collect the orbs together, because more at once means more damage.
  4. If the guards take too long, Dul Incaru summons a crystal that shields them. Destroy it quickly, but note that Shacknews says it also spawns Taken Psions on the flanking ledges.
  5. Deal with Psions fast, using cover on the sides and the back balcony.
  6. Damage Dul Incaru while the buff is up. The buff kills you when its timer ends unless you cleanse it at the central brazier or dais (the guides name it differently).
  7. If she survives, cleanse, and repeat. Guards respawn about 60 seconds after death (Shacknews).
  8. Defeating Dul Incaru drops Powerful Gear and completes the dungeon.

After a wipe: Decide who kills each guard so all three die together, and agree who calls the cleanse. Collecting orbs early, then waiting, wastes the timer.

What roles and loadout work in Shattered Throne?

A three-Guardian dungeon works best when every slot has a clear job before the first room. The chart below uses generic archetypes. No specific weapon or subclass is mandatory, and the best loadout is the one you already know how to play well.

Bring weapons for three jobs: adds, bosses and long-range snipers, and keep Heavy ammo for the Vorgeth and Dul Incaru damage windows. Make sure at least one Guardian has a way to heal without sprinting, since the Thrall hallway blocks health regeneration, and that everyone is comfortable with the Wizard and orb routine.

How do I prepare for Shattered Throne?

  • Update the game and check the recommended power level in the in-game Director.
  • Bring a way to heal in the Thrall hallway, where health does not regenerate.
  • Bring weapons for different damage needs and a build you know well.
  • Use a headset so you can hear callouts.
  • Turn on two-factor sign-in for your account.
  • Agree on roles and a caller before you start.
  • Pick a time window when you can play without interruption.

What are the most common Shattered Throne mistakes?

  • Clearing a Labyrinth cathedral twice and losing the route.
  • Splitting up in the Thrall hallway instead of moving as one group.
  • Dying with Petitioner's Mark stacks and starting the Vorgeth cycle again.
  • Grabbing Dul Incaru orbs early and letting the buff timer run out.
  • Forgetting to cleanse the buff before it ends.
  • Skipping the pre-fight briefing and trying to learn mechanics mid-wipe.
  • Talking over each other, which hides the one callout that matters.

What rewards does Shattered Throne offer?

The dungeon's exotic is Wish-Ender, a Kinetic combat bow, earned through a quest that runs through the dungeon (Destinypedia, Shacknews). Destinypedia lists legendary weapons from the original loot pool including Abide the Return, Retold Tale, Sleepless, Tigerspite, Twilight Oath, Vouchsafe and Waking Vigil, plus the Reverie Dawn armor set. Loot pools have changed since launch, so confirm what drops in-game. We did not confirm a seal for this dungeon in the sources we checked, so we do not list one.

Drop tables, drop rates and rewards can change between seasons. Always confirm in game, and do not treat any drop as guaranteed on a given run.

How does a Shattered Throne carry work?

A Guardian Sherpa carry is a guided self-play run. You stay signed in on your own account and play every encounter yourself, while an experienced Sherpa joins your fireteam, explains each mechanic and helps the team stay on track. We never ask for your password on self-play orders. See the Shattered Throne dungeon carry for the options; it is listed from $29 for a full clear, and the flawless-goal option is $58.

What is included, and what is not?

  • Included: a guided, self-play run with an experienced Guardian, a private order page, encounter explanations and a 48-hour review window.
  • Not included: account sharing or anyone else logging in to your account (Guardian Sherpa only sells self-play), cheats or exploits, guaranteed drops, guaranteed completion times or any promise of in-game results.

What is a flawless run?

A flawless run is one finished without a death. In the Shattered Throne that is harder because the Labyrinth and Thrall hallway punish mistakes and a death during Vorgeth wipes your stacks. We play toward that goal but cannot guarantee in-game results.

Is a carry safe for my account?

Self-play carries less risk than services that log in for you, but no provider can promise zero risk. Read our account safety page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Shattered Throne carry cost?

A Shattered Throne self-play carry is $29 for a full clear and $58 for a flawless-goal run (no deaths) at Guardian Sherpa. Prices are shown before checkout, there are no hidden fees, and the WELCOME20 code takes 20% off a first order. See the Shattered Throne carry page for the current price.

How long does a Shattered Throne run take?

Time varies with the team, how many sections are new to you and whether you choose the flawless goal. Your Sherpa gives an estimate on your order page before the run starts and explains each section as you go, which adds a little time but saves wipes.

What power level do I need for the Shattered Throne?

Check the recommended power shown in the in-game Director for the Shattered Throne and bring a character at or near it. Your Sherpa checks your character before the run and can suggest a quick power catch-up if you are under the recommendation.

Do I have to share my Destiny 2 login?

For self-play orders, no. You stay signed in on your own account and you stay signed in on your own account and join our fireteam through a normal in-game invite. On self-play orders we never ask for your password, your email login or your platform credentials. Piloted orders need secure account access, shared only after payment through your private order page. Read the account safety page for the full policy.

Can I cancel my order for a refund?

Yes, up to the moment a Sherpa accepts your order. Until then you can cancel from your order page for a full refund to the original payment method. After a Sherpa accepts, the customer-side cancel option closes, but our team can still cancel, refund or reschedule if something goes wrong. See the refund policy.

How do I book and what happens next?

Pick the run type on the product page and check out. You get a private order page where you confirm your platform, Bungie name and a time window. A Sherpa accepts the order, you receive a fireteam invite at the agreed time, and you play the activity together. Afterwards you have a 48-hour review window. The step-by-step guide covers each stage.

Is the Shattered Throne good for first-time dungeon players?

It is a long dungeon with two bosses and some tricky traversal, so a first run is more about learning the route and the Wizard and orb routine than guessing. A Sherpa can explain each section before you reach it. We cannot guarantee a clear, but guided teams usually avoid the common mistakes.
