Bungie's Destiny 2 unvaulting plan, shared in its October 29, 2026 community update, will first bring back the Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken campaigns, along with their strikes, raids and raid lairs and the Menagerie. Pre-production runs until roughly January or February 2027, followed by about 12 months of production, so outlets estimate a release no earlier than early 2028, and Bungie has not set a date.

What is the Destiny Content Vault, and why does unvaulting matter?
Starting in 2020, Bungie removed older campaigns, destinations and raids from Destiny 2 and placed them in what it called the Destiny Content Vault. Many players had paid for that content. In the October 2026 update, Josh Deane called the 2020 vaulting a moment that broke faith with the community, according to MMOs.com.
The September 21, 2026 announcement was the first sign that this would change. GamesRadar reported that Deane described vaulted paid content as what is rightfully yours and said it would be brought up to the stability and gameplay standards of Destiny 2 today, including lighting and combatant AI.
What content is coming back first?
The first pass covers four of the earliest Destiny 2 releases: the Red War base campaign, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken. Bungie's plan includes their campaigns, their strikes, and their raids and raid lairs. MMOs.com names the raid lairs as Eater of Worlds, Spire of Stars and Scourge of the Past, and notes that the final boss of Scourge of the Past is already playable through Pantheon. Bungie's own update did not name individual raids, so see our vaulted raids explainer for what is confirmed.
The Menagerie, a six-player activity from the Season of Opulence era, is also on the first-pass list, with reprised rewards. Several outlets report that this content is planned to be available to all players.
What are the stretch goals?
Stretch goals are items Bungie is investigating for launch or after launch, not confirmed features. They include free-roam patrol destinations with Public Events, Lost Sectors and Escalation Protocol, seasonal activities from Sundial in Season 9 through The Coil in Season 23, weapon updates for the returning raids and raid lairs, and PvP maps.
What is not coming back?
Bungie listed some items with no current path to launch for technical or strategic reasons: an updated New Light onboarding experience, seasonal story missions, the Kell's Grave Gambit map and seasonal hubs such as the Eliksni Quarter. Deane suggested some of these exclusions relate to future plans.
When will vaulted content return?
There is no release date. Shacknews summarized the timeline as scoping in June 2026, validation in September 2026, pre-production now, production starting around February 2027, and release to be determined. Inven Global reported that the June greenlight included finding an outside partner to help with the port.
Bungie estimates roughly 12 months of production, which is why Beebom, PC Gamer and others point to early 2028 at the soonest. PC Gamer also quoted Bungie's caveat that some things are subject to change in success or failure, so treat 2028 as an estimate, not a promise. What this means for your carries
Unvaulting is more than a year away, so nothing changes for today's endgame. The current raids, dungeons, Trials and Grandmaster Nightfalls are still the activities that rotate each week. If you want help finishing them now, see our full catalog, and plan around featured activities with our weekly reset guide. For specifics, read our raid carry guide and dungeon carry guide.
All Guardian Sherpa services are self-play carries: you stay on your own account and play with our team, and we never ask for your password. Details are on our account safety page. When the old raids do return, we will cover them here once Bungie shares real details.
