Swarm of small starships streaming toward a glowing gold ring-gate against a violet cosmos

Destiny 2 averaged 24,742 concurrent Steam players in October 2026 with a monthly peak of 41,119, according to Steam Charts, well below June's peak of 167,867 when the final Monument of Triumph update launched but up from September. How many people are playing Destiny 2 in late 2026?

Steam Charts shows Destiny 2 averaging 24,742 concurrent players in October 2026, with a monthly peak of 41,119. That is up from September, which averaged 17,341 with a peak of 37,341. These numbers cover Steam only, so they leave out everyone playing on PlayStation and Xbox, and Bungie does not publish total player counts.

Why did Destiny 2's player count spike in June 2026?

Bungie announced on May 21, 2026 that Monument of Triumph would be the final content update, and it launched on June 9. Shacknews reported more than 167,000 concurrent Steam players on launch day, citing SteamDB, and Steam Charts records a June peak of 167,867. Tbreak described it as the game's highest Steam player count in two years. Activity cooled over the summer, with July peaking at 93,088 and August at 46,519.

How does that compare with earlier in 2026?

Before the final update, Destiny 2 hit its lowest numbers of the year. March averaged 7,293 players and April peaked at just 12,852, according to Steam Charts. In other words, the game had more Steam players in October, after content development ended, than it did in the spring.

Is Destiny 2 worth returning to in 2026?

It depends on what you want. There are no new expansions coming, but the servers stay online, Bungie says the game will remain playable, and the Monument of Triumph update refreshed raid and dungeon loot with tiered gear. Weekly featured raids and dungeons still rotate, and Bungie has announced plans to restore vaulted campaigns and raids, although that work is not expected to land before 2028 at the earliest.

What do new players get with The Collection?

Destiny 2: The Collection became available on June 9, 2026. GamesRadar+ lists the Forsaken, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light and 30th Anniversary packs, The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape and The Edge of Fate expansions, the Renegades mini-expansion and the Dungeon Key pack. GamesRadar+ reported it at $25 against a regular price of about $70 on June 10, and GAMINGbible reported a Steam key deal through Fanatical at $17.14 that ended October 17, 2026. Prices change, so check your platform store before buying.

Things to know before you buy

  • Free content: the Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns are already free for all players.
  • Cross-save: characters, progression and gear carry across platforms with a linked Bungie account, but DLC is tied to the platform where you bought it.
  • Trials of Osiris: the community wiki says it requires SMS verification and ownership of The Edge of Fate, Renegades or The Collection.
  • Onboarding: Bungie said in October that an overhauled New Light onboarding experience has no current path, so expect the existing new player flow.
