What did Bungie say about the October 2026 ban wave?
On October 1, 2026, the Destiny 2 Team account on X said Bungie had recently issued a large ban wave against accounts found to be violating the terms of service, either by cheating or by using account recovery, ban evasion or boosting services. The post added that Bungie had further investigated appeals to the wave to validate accuracy.
Bungie did not publish how many accounts were banned. Kyber's Corner's October 1 report links to Bungie's Appeal Ban or Restriction and Account Restrictions and Banning Policies help articles for anyone who believes they were actioned in error.
What was the XP and reward spam cheat?
Bungie also said it had recently seen new cheats that pushed unearned rewards and XP onto other players' accounts. Bungie addressed it in Update 9.7.0.5 on October 7, 2026 with a back-end change to stop cheat users from spamming other players. The patch notes say accounts that used these cheats maliciously are being actioned, and players who did not actively seek out the cheats or their benefits will not be penalized.
Was there anything else in recent patches?
Update 9.7.0.6 on October 20 only fixed an Eververse issue where some Bright Dust purchases unlocked extra cosmetics. Earlier PvP-related fixes this year included closing out-of-bounds exploits on Meltdown in Update 9.7.0.3 (July 7) and disabling a Gambit set bonus in Crucible Ops in the July 28 hotfix after players could spawn near-infinite Special ammo.
Does this affect Trials of Osiris?
Trials of Osiris already requires SMS verification, according to Kyber's Corner's current Trials page. Bungie has not said how many of the October bans came from Trials, so we cannot say how much the wave changed the playlist. If you run into a suspected cheater, use Bungie's official reporting tools rather than calling players out in chat.
What does "boosting services" mean for players?
Bungie's post grouped boosting services with cheating, account recovery and ban evasion, but it did not describe which practices it actioned. Bungie's own help articles are the only authoritative guide to its rules, and the decision to restrict an account is always Bungie's. What we can say is how we work: our carries are self-play, and we never ask for or log into a customer's account.
What this means for your carries
Every Guardian Sherpa carry is self-play. You play on your own account, on your own console or PC, in a fireteam with our players, as described in how a self-play carry works. We never ask for your password, and our account safety page explains what we will and will not ask for. We cannot guarantee how Bungie enforces its terms, so please read Bungie's policies before buying any service.
If you want Trials rewards with a coordinated team, see the Trials of Osiris carry guide and Trials carries. If you would rather improve on your own, our coaching guide and coaching sessions are built for that.
